RNLI
The sea has always provided an allegory for life, death, hope and salvation.
My grandfather, a native of Cobh, Cork, witnessed the steerage passengers embark the Titanic and saw the victims of the Lusitania at Cobh harbour. For many years now, from my studio, I have watched the trawlers leave harbour to work the sea.
In calm and storm they have braved the danger and melted into the horizon, to make a living and feed us.
The voluntary sacrifice by the men and women of the RNLI who forsake their lives to save others continues to astound me.
My last two exhibitions have been in association with the RNLI. ‘Coastlight’ in 2007 at Kinsale, and ‘Haven’, 2008 at Howth.
The paintings below have been wholly and proudly donated to this cause.
I am honoured to be associated with the RNLI.
